There are last minute flights in the afternoon or at night but they do not go at all at night because the landing in Cusco is allowed until 10 pm, one of the reasons is the location of the Cusco airport where there are strong winds that make landing difficult during the night. There are four airlines with permanent flights from Lima to Cusco and vice versa. They are Peruvian Airlines, LATAM, Taca, Star Peru.

In terms of ground transportation, there are many options to choose from, here we recommend 3 companies so you have a general idea, the buses have daily departures that connect Lima and Cusco. The bus companies are Cruz del Sur, Caruamayo and Tepsa. Buses leave for their destination at 2 pm, 5 pm and 5:30 pm. It’s a long 22 hours trip which includes a night on the bus with a light meal. Therefore this option is the longest, least comfortable, somewhat heavy and not very efficient compared to the flights; but it’s cheaper.

We recommend is to fly since it is faster, comfortable and safe because the bus will not stop for anything and the flights to Cusco only take one hour and fifteen minutes.

Getting to Machu picchu from lima By plane – Flights

The flights usually arrive during the day and part of the night from Lima, Arequipa, Puerto Maldonado, Juliaca, La Paz – Bolivia and other international cities, so it offers regular national and international flights.
